SANRAL Further Enhancing the Attractiveness of the N3 Corridor around Cato Ridge

Anyone driving regularly on the N3 between Hillcrest and Pietermaritzburg could experience some traffic congestion from time to time, but should marvel at the amount of work and the quality of the work being done to enhance the N3. This will cater for the growing usage and many have commented that they have never seen so much road construction work in their lives.

Businesses, including the large Distribution Centre's, in Hammarsdale and Cato Ridge are already enjoying the recently completed Hammarsdale interchange. Other improvements in the area that are currently under construction, in addition to the widening of the N3 include the following:-

• The upgrade from Keyridge to Hammarsdale which includes large viaducts to realign the N3 and reduce the grades and the corners.

• The upgrade from Cato Ridge to Umlaas Road including the new Dardanelles interchange. This also includes upgrades to the Camperdown interchange and significant enhancements to the service roads in the area.

• Upgrades  from Dardanelles to Lynnfield Park including the upgrading of the Lynnfield Park Interchange.

We trust that the proposed new Cato Ridge interchange will follow shortly.

All of these improvements will improve accessibility and usage of the N3 and, together with the Cato Ridge Inland Port / Durban Dry Port, will cement the area as the best location for logistics in the country.
