2025 - THE YEAR FOR DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CATO RIDGE AND HAMMARSDALE AREA

2025 - THE YEAR FOR DEVELOPMENTS IN THE CATO RIDGE AND HAMMARSDALE AREA

When driving along the N3 in the area of Cato-Ridge you will note a large new sign heralding the Cato Ridge Inland Port and the pace of associated developments is starting to accelerate.

The existing Intermodal /Transshipment facility is operating more effectively and efficiently, handling a greater volume of containers and a number of other logistics operators are also starting to realize the attractiveness of the area.

This was further highlighted at a recent event hosted by the Hammarsdale, Cato Ridge Development Association, which was attended by well over 100 people. The various speakers highlighted some of the developments and support for the area with significant further plans scheduled for 2025.

FNB, who sponsored the event, confirmed their willingness to assist with funding of projects.

Some recent developments include the Maersk reefer stacking area and other container stacks which are clearly visible and confirm that the international shipping lines are realizing the potential of the area.

The construction of a large new cold storage facility and another new warehousing facility are both already up to roof height. Bedrock Construction have developed a site for the manufacture of prestressed concrete beams for the N3 Upgrade project and other smaller brownfields construction projects are in progress.

The large warehouse in Eddie Hagan Rd has now been filled by Toyota but there is still a 26 000m2 facility and a few smaller ones available for lease in Cato Ridge and a number of others in Hammarsdale.

The biggest current attraction is, however, still the fairly large amount of Industrial zoned vacant land available for sale and or Turnkey Development and, although the sizes are generally large, they are now starting to attract interest.

After many years of very gradual growth, it is clearly apparent that the pace of development is definitely picking up.
